Man United reportedly sent scouts to watch two targets go head to head in a Primeira Liga clash between FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon.

The excellent Sport Witness report that the Old Trafford side are keen on French international centre-back Eliaqium Managala, who has a cool €50m release clause.

Man United boss David Moyes will certainly be in the market for defenders this summer with Nemanja Vidic having already secured a move to Inter Milan and Rio Ferdinand likely to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

However they are unlikely to fork out €50m for 22 year old defender Mangala, regardless of his obvious potential.

Man United also continue to track Portuguese enforcer William Carvalho, who also has an inflated transfer release clause said to amount to €45m.

Moyes could certainly do with an out and out defensive midfielder and Belgian Marouane Fellaini is failing to impress anyone with his performances in a holding role that really doesn’t suit his talents.

Man United are apparently happy to hand under-fire manager Moyes a massive transfer war-chest but that doesn’t mean that the Premier League side will pay way over the odds for this Portuguese based pair.
