Chelsea have made Sporting Lisbon youngster Ricardo Carvalho their top transfer priority according to Football Direct News.

The 21 year old has been in fine form this term, helping his side to mount a genuine Primeira Liga title challenge, and a move to Stamford Bridge is sure to tempt the Portuguese international enforcer.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho opted to offload Micheal Essien to AC Milan and John Obi Mikel may well follow suit having been frozen out of the Chelsea first team.

The 26 year old Nigerian has started just two Premier League fixtures in 2014 and may be sold to make way for new additions.

Mourinho signed Nemanja Matic in January but may feel that Carvalho is a potential talent worth bringing in to beef up his squad.

Carvalho has been a virtual ever present this season and cash-strapped Sporting Lisbon may well feel the need to cash-in on the youngster to help balance the books.
