Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is lining up a summer move for Chelsea full-back Ryan Bertrand according to Football Direct News.

The Anfield side could well do with further left-back options as loaned in Frenchman Aly Cissokho has failed to impress on a regular basis and Jose Enrique is struggling with long term injury concerns.

Youngster John Flanagan has more than proven himself capable of filling the spot but is perhaps better suited to the right-back berth.

24 year old Blues bit-part player Bertrand is currently on loan at Aston Villa, enjoying the regular football he has failed to garner during his four seasons in the Chelsea first team set-up.

Rodgers knows the player well from both his time in charge of Chelsea’s youth and reserve teams as well as during the loan stint Bertrand enjoyed at Reading.

Bertrand struggled to unseat Ashley Cole for the left sided defensive role but did start the club’s Champions League final win over Bayern Munich and has two full England caps to his name so is undoubtedly a talented performer.

One would imagine he would jump at the chance of reuniting with Rodgers at Liverpool and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho may feel he can afford to cash-in on the wide-man.
