Liverpool have set their sights on Mexican forward Carlos Vela according to Football Direct News.

The 25 year old Real Sociedad marksman struggled to make an impact during his three seasons in the Arsenal first team but has gone on to become one of the most consistent attackers in La Liga.

Vela has scored 36 goals and provided 25 assists in 97 La Liga appearances for Real Sociedad and may be tempted by a return to the Premier League.

Though Brendan Rodgers has seen Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge develop into one of the most deadly striking partnerships in Europe the Anfield boss doesn’t have much in the way of back-up options.

Fabio Borini was loaned out to Sunderland after a poor first season and summer signing Iago Aspas has looked way out of his depth.

Vela would clearly be all the more amenable to a move to Liverpool if Rodgers secures a Champions League berth, especially if his Spanish side fail to do likewise.

Real Sociedad currently sit in fifth spot in La Liga, six points off fourth placed Athletic Bilbao.
