Man United are reportedly closing in on a stunning deal to sign PSG striker Edinson Cavani according to reports in the Manchester Evening News.

The source suggests that the Old Trafford side have agreed ‘in principal’ to an £80m deal to sign the Uruguayan international, who is said to be unsettled in the French capital.

One imagines that the lack of Champions League action next term could prove a stumbling block though David Moyes may still harbour hopes of securing either a top four finish or indeed overcoming Olympiakos tonight ahead of a push to win the tournament outright this season.

Interest in Cavani may well be lieu of a possible sale of Dutch forward Robin Van Persie with bit-part player Javier Hernandez also strongly linked with a Man United exit.

PSG paid Napoli £53m for Cavani last summer and would surely not be all that keen on losing the 27 year old but an offer of £80m may well be considered if the powerful forward made it clear he was not happy playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Despite reports of his being unhappy at PSG Cavani has managed to score at a healthy rate this term, netting 21 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions.
