Liverpool are on alert as Marseille reportedly prepare to sell midfielder Mathieu Valbuena according to the Daily Mirror.

Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers showed an interest in the French international during the January transfer window and appears ready to re-ignite a move for the experienced Marseille man.

29 year old Valbuena has been at the Stade Velodrome for eight years and is ready for a fresh challenge and could jump at the chance of a Premier League move.

The pint sized midfield dynamo has made it clear he could be ready for a move away from his native France, stating;

“A departure? To discover something else next season could be interesting.

“It’s been eight years since I am here at l’OM. I’ve never hidden that an experience abroad tempts me. We’ll see.”

Rodgers may well feel that he needs to strengthen his midfield options and Valbuena could be just the man for the job.

The tigerish performer is strong in the tackle and a real threat in the final third and given that Rodgers can only call upon Steven Gerrard, Joe Allen, Jordan Henderson and Lucas Leiva to fill central midfield roles a move for Valbuena would be a sensible one to consider.
