Newcastle United have targeted Arsenal youngster Carl Jenkinson according to the Independent.

The 22 year old England man may have felt that the possible exit of veteran Frenchman Bacary Sagna would result in a chance to fill the right-back berth on a regular basis however Arsene Wenger has targeted a number of possible replacements for his current first choice starter.

Southampton’s Calum Chambers is one such target and now Alan Pardew is said to be keen to bring in Jenkinson to St James’ Park on a season long loan deal.

Jenkinson moved to the Emirates Stadium from Charlton Athletic back in June 2011 and has been an able, if raw, performer when called upon and a player with obvious potential.

The attack minded full-back can at times been known to be dragged out of position and guilty of occasional errors but clearly Magpies boss Pardew feels the Jenkinson could be a viable addition to his Newcastle United ranks.

Jenkinson has started six Premier League fixtures this term and has made a total of 51 appearances for Arsenal and has one England national team cap to his name.
