The 24-year-old made the move to the Etihad last summer in a £24m deal from Fiorentina, but thanks to a series of injury problems he has found breaking into the City first team more difficult than first expected.

Recently he has made a return from injury, but has still found breaking ahead of Alvaro Negredo difficult following Sergio Aguero’s injury, and his fringe status within the squad has alerted Roma, who are now preparing a move to bring him back to Italy over the summer.

Jovetic is still highly regarded in Italy following a successful spell with La Viola, but having only left last year he may be intent on giving life with the Sky Blues one more chance in a bid to prove himself.

Fiorentina had been interested in bringing him back during the January transfer window, but were put off by the jump in wages he’d received upon moving to City, and it remains to be seen whether Roma will be able to match his pay packet too.
