Former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira is being lined up as a potential replacement for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger according to Football Direct News.

The 37 year old is currently employed as the head of Man City’s elite development squad and his work in that role has apparently attraced the attention of the North London club as they look ahead to a time when they look to replace veteran manager Vieira.

Vieira has played more games under Wenger during his reign as Arsenal boss than anyone else and is a club legend so one can well imagine a possible return to Arsenal though the World Cup winner is also being thought of a possible future manager of the Etihad Stadium side that he currently works for, which could well provide something of an obstacle to any move by the Emirates Stadium side.

Wenger suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea in his 1000th game in charge of Arsenal and with his current contract set to expire in a matter of months there are some who believe the time may be right for the manager to leave this summer.

Indeed if Arsenal fail to end their nine year silverware drought this term then the chances of such an occurrence will certainly increase.
