The experienced Belgium international has once again found himself surplus to requirements at the north London club this season, with the centre back spending the majority of the campaign warming the substitutes’ bench at the Emirates as opposed to actually playing.

And now as a result, Vermaelen is said to have finally lost patience with the situation in the capital under Gunners head coach Arsene Wenger, with the 28-year-old having now finally resolved to quit the club this summer.

However, despite the player being unsettled in north London, it is understood that Wenger is still keen to keep hold of his highly rated skipper at the club, although with Vermaelen’s current deal set to run out in June 2015, a decision regarding the Belgium’s long-term future at the Emirates may now need to be taken this summer.

And with the Southern Italians known to be keen to lure the classy central defender to the Sao Paolo, Vermaelen’s days at Arsenal may now be numbered.
