The former Arsenal midfielder left the Emirates for the Spanish champions back in the summer of 2012, but has struggled to stake a claim for a regular spot in the starting XI.

And now Song’s Cameroonian international teammate has told him that he is good enough to be playing regularly elsewhere and must leave as soon as possible in order to make the most of himself.

“Song has to leave Barca,” Eto’o told beIN Sports. “At his age, he must play and he could be in the starting XI at any big club.”

Eto’o has been in fine form so far this term, but was taken off early during his side’s 6-0 mauling of Arsenal at the weekend, and he now fears that he will not be fit enough to take of Paris Saint Germain in the last eight of the Champions League.

Eto’o also admitted that he came close to joining the French champions, and expressed a desire for playing for them at some point in the future.

“I always dreamed of playing at Parc des Princes,” he remarked. “Unfortunately, my injury may not allow me to be there. Can I get fit enough? Time will tell. I can’t say anything but I will work to be there.

“I could have played for PSG when Luis Fernandez was the coach. He bought me dinner but the clubs didn’t find an agreement.

Asked if he could yet join the Ligue 1 champions, Eto’o replied: “As a fan, maybe, but not as a player.

“Leonardo has talked to me about coming to Paris but it did not happen and it’s a shame because I would have liked to play for PSG.”
