Liverpool are to step up their interest in Udinese striker Luis Muriel according to Football Direct News.

The Colombian international has reportedly fallen out with manager Francesco Guidolin and is looking to leave the Serie A strugglers.

The 22 year old netted 11 goals from just 15 Serie A starts last term and may have hoped such form would have resulted in a more meaningful role at the Stadio Friuli though this has not proven the case.

Muriel has started just ten Serie A fixtures this season and has only seen out a full 90 minute shift on four occasions.

Liverpool will need to fork out around £15m to land the promising South American but that may be a fee that Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is willing to spend the speedy striker.

Rodgers knows he can depend on Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge as his first choice pairing but beyond the in-form pair his options are fairly sketchy.

Indeed Rodgers could look to offload Iago Aspas and loaned out Italian Fabio Borini to help fund a move for Muriel with Liverpool looking for striking improvements as they prepare for a probable Champions League campaign next term.
