The Schalke starlet has been a long time target for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, and is all set to make an exit from the Bundesliga side this summer as both Bayern and Manchester United have also been linked with his signature.

Arsenal, who were hammered 6-0 by title contenders Chelsea this weekend had often been viewed as the forerunners to land the young German international, and can now see themselves in pole position once again after Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge ruled out a move for Draxler, and even suggested that the 20-year-old was not good enough to play for the club.

“We are not buying any player from [Borussia] Dortmund or Schalke just to hurt these clubs. We are just buying players who can give FC Bayern more quality straight away. I can rule out that we will sign Julian Draxler in the summer,” he said.

Arsenal, along with Premier league table-toppers Chelsea, may be disappointed to hear Bayern striker Mario Mandzukic, who they have both been linked with, could be staying with the German side, despite the impending arrival of Robert Lewandowski.

Rummenigge added: “I am aware that several clubs are interested in him but I think he will stay past the end of this season.”
