Chelsea will reportedly battle Man City in pursuit of Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema with the French forward being linked with a possible Bernabeu exit according to talkSPORT.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has got the most out of 26 year old striker Benzema this term and is clearly a big fan of the powerful marksman, no outfield player has featured more than the former Lyon man this term, however ongoing contractual wranglings could lead to summer sale.

The La Liga giants are willing to consider offers of £40m+ for Benzema and the player’s agent has openly courted Premier League interest stating;

“I’ve proposed rekindling the interest from Manchester City for Karim. After his fine form in El Clasico I’ve proposed him as a summer target.

“Karim would love to play in the Premier League and Manchester City would be his choice of club, however reuniting with Mourinho at Chelsea would also be of interest.

“I know he is watching the Manchester derby with interest however. Manchester United will be a no-go area for the player as he has refused them four times over the years”

In previous campaigns Benzema has had to fight former star Gonzalo Higuain for a starting spot but this season he has flourished as part of a front three that includes wide attackers Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale and his return of 23 goals and 11 assists in 39 appearances in all competitions will mean the Real Madrid man will have no shortage of potential suitors.

Jose Mourinho would no doubt jump at the chance to have Benzema leading the Blues attack as he seeks for a marked improvement on his current crop of strikers, with Demba Ba, Fernando Torres, and to a lesser extent, Samuel Eto’o all struggling for form this season.
