Man United are ready to offer England striker Danny Welbeck as bait in their pursuit of Everton midfielder Ross Barkley according to Football Direct News.

The 20 year old Toffees star has long been linked with interest from Old Trafford, pre-dating the arrival of David Moyes, and an offer of a talented striker as part of a move for Barkley could just tempt Roberto Martinez.

The Spaniard will be very short of options up front next term when loaned in trio Romelu Lukaku, Gerard Deulofeu and Lacina Traore return to Chelsea, AS Monaco and Barcelona respectively and may feel that the loss of Barkley to help boost his attack is one option worth considering.

Barkley has been in outstanding form this term and has been pivotal to the club’s ongoing pursuit of a top four finish, a chase that has been lifted by a run of four straight wins, with the talented midfielder netting in their recent victories over Swansea City and Newcastle United.

David Moyes could well do with further freshening up his midfield with summer signing Marouane Fellaini failing to live up to expectations.

The likes of Tom Cleverley, loaned out Brazilian Anderson, Darren Fletcher and Shinji Kagawa may well all be playing for their futures at the club.

Welbeck has been in good form this term, forcing his way ahead of Javier Hernandez in the Man United striking pecking order, though still behind Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney, scoring nine goals in 21 Premier League appearances this term, of which eight were from the bench.
