Man United’s Marouane Fellaini: Pablo Zabaleta Ran Into My Elbow

Belgian says Zabaleta ‘bounced’ off his arm during match at Old Trafford.

Maroune Fellaini may not be impressing on the pitch but the Man United midfielder is undoubtedly brilliant at making excuses.

The Belgian says Man City’s Pablo Zabaleta ‘bounced’ his jaw against his elbow during Tuesday’s match at Old Trafford.

Fellaini appeared to be very lucky to escape a red card after clattering the Argentine with an elbow to the face during United’s humiliating 3-0 defeat – right under the nose of referee Michael Oliver.

The midfielder was shown a yellow card – and therefore will not face retrospective action from the FA – but Zabaleta claimed after the game that the big-haired former Everton star should have been sent off.

However, Fellaini is quoted in the Daily Mail as saying: “I don’t know, but I certainly didn’t do it on purpose.
“I put my arm up to try and protect possession of the ball, and Zabaleta bounced [his jaw] against it. He was unlucky to make contact.

“The movement by me was not in an aggressive manner. It was a defensive move to protect the ball.”
