Belgium is contracted to White Hart Lane until 2016.

The Catalan giants have finally made the purchase of a new ball-playing centre back their top priority for when the summer transfer window does finally reopen again for business at the start of July following the retirement of club captain Carles Puyol at Camp Nou this season.

Initially, though, Barca intended to move for out-of-favour Chelsea central defender cum holding midfielder David Luiz, however, the Spaniards are likely to be priced out any swoop for the Brazil international by the west London club.

And as a result, Barcelona will instead switch their focus to the versatile Tottenham star who can operate either as a centre back or if necessary as a left back too and has already expressed his intention to quit White Hart Lane at the end of the campaign if the north Londners fail to finish in the top four of the Premier League and so miss out on Uefa Champions League qualification.
