AS Monaco are closing in on a deal to sign Chelsea youngster Romelu Lukaku according to Football Direct News.
The big spending Ligue 1 side are ready to fork out around £20m for the Belgian international and stand a good chance of winning the race to capture the forward as Blues boss Jose Mourinho will resist selling to a Premier League rival though Borussia Dortmund are also said to be keen on Lukaku.
Lukaku has proven over the course of two loan spells at West Brom and Everton that he is more than capable of scoring regularly at Premier League level though for some reason Mourinho doesn’t appear to rate the former Anderlecht man all that highly.
Having netted 17 goals for the Baggies Lukaku was drafted back into the Chelsea fist team set-up over the summer and he performed well in pre-season activity though Mourinho then opted to send him out again, leading to a successful spell at Everton.
Indeed his total of 11 Premier League goals exceeds the likes of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba so one would’ve thought that perhaps Mourinho would’ve changed his opinion of the 20 year old but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
