Man United will launch a club record bid for Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus as the Old Trafford side look to freshen up options in the final third.

CaughtOffside understands that David Moyes is not only keen on bringing in much needed defensive additions but has scouted the 24 year old extensively in recent months ahead of a £45m bid for the in-form attacker.

Moyes wants to use Reus as a link between midfield and attack, providing a much needed extra goal-scoring outlet, and will hope that he can lure the German international to the Premier League this summer.

Westfalenstadion boss Jurgen Klopp faces a fight to prevent a mass exodus this summer as another of his talents, Robert Lewandowski, has already agreed a move to domestic rivals Bayern Munich where he will join youngster Mario Gotze who made the same move last summer.

Reus has netted 12 goals and provided eight assists thus far this term, a hugely impressive return given that Borussia Dortmund haven’t come close to mounting a title challenge and the growing gap between Klopp’s side and their Bavarian rivals may well lead to the club’s top performers considering their options at the end of the current campaign.

Moyes has identified centre-back Mats Hummels as a potential replacement for outgoing captain Nemanja Vidic and having monitored the 25 year old is ready to offer as much as £25m for the rock solid defender.

Barcelona are also known to be interested in Hummels, who is into his seventh season at Borussia Dortmund.

Man United may well have something of a defensive re-building project to undergo this summer with Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra, as well as the aforementioned Vidic, all seeing their contracts expire.

Moyes will hope to convince Hummels to move to Man United despite the very real likelihood that they won’t be able to offer him the Champions League football he’s become accustomed to in recent seasons.

Man United will hope that a combined £70m offer will be hard for Borussia Dortmund to refuse, though it would take the pair to push for an exit from the Bundesliga side in order for any deal to come to fruition.
