Old Trafford side look to cash-in with move to re-name stadium.

Former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys has claimed that Man United’s owners are set to sell naming rights to Old Trafford to sportswear giants Nike.

This is sure to anger a significant portion of the club’s supporters though others may see such a move as a sensible financial measure that would yield a massive sum, albeit at the expense of over a century of tradition.

The club’s owners are already not hugely popular but the Glazers will be in for a fair amount of abuse for renaming the ground though if Man United fail to qualify for the Champions League next term then such a measure may be all the more likely as they look to balance the books.

There has been a growing talk of David Moyes being handed a massive £200m transfer war-chest and many would have questioned as to where such funds would originate given the club’s current financial position and talk of Nike paying half a billion for Old Trafford naming rights may well be the answer to that mystery.
