West Ham to Make Summer Approach for Chelsea Wide-Man

Upton Park side want Stamford Bridge bit-part player.

West Ham are to line-up an approach for Chelsea wing-back Ryan Bertrand according to Football Direct News.

The 24 year old England international is currently enjoying some much needed first team football during a loan spell at Aston Villa and is certainly a player Jose Mourinho can afford to offload in the summer.

The left-back battled Ashley Cole for a first team berth for many seasons but now Mourinho sees Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta as his first choice for the position and is also said to be keen on Southampton teenager Luke Shaw, making Bertrand very much surplus to requirements.

Upton Park boss Sam Allardyce currently has the likes of Pablo Armero, on loan from Napoli, and George McCartney as options but Bertrand is arguably a far superior option to those currently in the Hammers squad.

Bertrand may well be ready for a fresh challenge and a move across London could be a sensible one to consider.

One would imagine that it wouldn’t take a massive fee to secure Bertrand, who is a very able performer and has the potential to improve further if given the chance to impress.

Bertrand has made just 21 Premier League starts since making his debut for Chelsea back in April 2011.
