Chelsea are closing in on a £35m deal to sign La Liga hot-shot Diego Costa according to the Daily Express.

Talks between the Stamford Bridge side and Costa’s representatives are already underway and Jose Mourinho will look have the deal complete before the 2014 World Cup finals where the Brazilian born Spanish international’s stock could rise further.

The 25 year old has scored 32 goals in all competitions this term but may well feel he has achieved as much as he can at the Vicente Calderon and a move to join the Blues will surely bring a massive pay-rise for the powerful forward.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone may look to hang on to loaned in keeper Thibaut Courtois as part of any deal with Chelsea though the West London club could also elect to offer former player Fernando Torres to keep the cost of the move for Costa down.

Mourinho has been unable to rely upon his current crop of strikers this season with the trio of Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o managing just 15 Premier League goals between them, the lack of a regular goalscorer could well lead to Chelsea’s push for either a Premier League or Champions League title being derailed.
