The German international previously spent a year with Manchester City in the 2010/11 season before heading back to his native Germany with Bayern.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is reported to be a big fan of the player and has been keeping an eye on his progress this term and speculation has been taken into overdrive that the 25-year-old could be on the move again at the end of the current campaign.

However, reports in Germany have suggested that Manchester United boss David Moyes is also interested and will look to make his own move at some point over the summer.

Rodgers is also thought to be eyeing up Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole and Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

And both Liverpool and United could find that prizing Boateng away from the Bundesliga giants after he recently spoke about his happiness at the club.

“I am happy,” Boateng said. “FC Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in world football. I want to achieve more success here.”
