Former Liverpool front man John Aldridge watched the Merseysiders thrash Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon while also having his heart monitored, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The Irishman, who was part of the last Reds team to win the title back in the 1989-90 season (although he was actually sold by manager Kenny Dalglish to La Liga outfit Real Sociedad midway through that campaign), watched his old team beat the north London club to move to the top of the Premier League in Shenanigans pub in Liverpool city centre as part of a #YouareFootball experiment.

And the former striker had his heart rate monitored throughout the contest, with his hovering around the 80s for much of the match, although that did then jump to nearly 120 when Luis Suarez made it 2-0 to the home team midway through the first half.

“Every game I’m watching now my nerves go mad Whether it’s at the ground, an away ground or in the pub,” said Aldridge.

“My heart really does race because we’re doing ever so well.”
