Former Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly readying a big money bid for out of sorts Arsenal star Mesut Ozil according to the Metro.

In a report that may well owe something to it being April the 1st the Russian Premier League side are said to be willing to fork out £40m for the German international, who is currently out injured after coming in for a fair bit of criticism in recent weeks.

Zenit St Petersburg are no stranger to splashing the cash having forked out a cool £68m to bring in Brazilian Hulk and Belgian midfielder Axel Wistel a couple of years ago.

Ozil is sidelined with a hamstring issue but has managed a decent return in his 38 appearances this term, during which he’s amassed 13 assists and scored six goals.

Arsenal broke their club transfer record to land the 25 year old when they paid £42.5m for the attacking midfielder and are unlikely to listen to offers for the playmaker, regardless of how much is offered.

Villas-Boas took over at the Petrovsky Stadium last month having been sacked from his White Hart Lane post earlier in the season.
