The Merseyside giants have been heavily linked with making a £25m move for the highly rated Brazil international when the summer transfer window finally opens again for business on July 1.

The Reds are known to be keen to land a new left back for next season, with Marcelo’s name understood to be featuring high on head coach Brendan Rodgers’s wish list at present.

However, Marcelo has now come out to dampen down those stories and insist that he will still be with Los Blancos come next season.

“My best memory of football was when I signed for Real Madrid because I did not expect it,” he told Spanish sports daily El Mundo Deportivo.

“It was a spectacular moment. I’ve been here since I was 18, I’m from Madrid in practice and I am proud to be one of the captains of Real Madrid.”

The Brazilian full back has a contract in the Spanish capital that runs until June 2015.
