Man City are said to be one of a number of sides chasing PSG ace Edinson Cavani with the Manchester Evening News reporting that a £55m deal could be more likely following comments made by the Uruguayan.

The 27 year old forward has certainly not dampened speculation following his interview with French source L’equipe, during which he stated;

“We’ll see at the end of the season. We have to finish the season first.

“I am in Paris, but there are certainly things we must talk about with the club, things should be done differently.

“Chelsea were interested, but the only thing that matters in the transfer window is spending money, just like Palermo did in 2009, Napoli in 2011 and PSG did last summer.”

One would have to wonder why Manuel Pellegrini would be looking for yet another striker given that the Chilean can currently call upon Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic, so one imagines that a move would only be relevant if he were to lose one or two of his current attacking options.

Cavani is said to be unsettled in France though this hasn’t prevented him from scoring 21 goals in all competitions this term.
