The experienced Switzerland international joined the Bundesliga outfit last summer on a season-long loan deal, and it is now understood that the Germans have been so impressed by Djourou that they will push ahead with plans to sign the central defender on a full-time basis.

Djourou, 27, has been with the north London club now since 2004, however, in recent seasons the player has been shipped out on loan to the likes of Birmingham City, Hannover 96 and now Hamburg too.

And with the Swiss’ current deal in north London now with less than 18 months left to run on it, the Gunners are also said to be happy to allow Djourou to leave the Emirates in a cut-price deal this summer.

The defender has so far managed to feature in 22 matches in total in all competitions for Hamburg in this campaign, 20 of which have come in the German top flight, during which time Djourou has failed to score a single goal.
