Valencia will be looking to push past the Swiss side as their domestic form looks set to derail their bid to play European football next season.
Valancia, coached by Juan Antonio Pizzi, have won just one of their past six league games, and Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Getafe saw them dip to eighth in the league, nine points adrift of the Europa League qualifying places.
The guests also have problems with goalkeeper Diego Alves and defender Victor Ruiz, who are out injured while midfielder Javi Fuego must serve a one-match ban.
However, Basel will not be at full strength with several players, including Marco Streller, who is their top scorer in the competition with three goals, out injured.
To make things more difficult for the hosts, defender Marek Suchy and striker Giovanni Sio are suspended.
