Reports close to the Etihad have suggested that manager Manuel Pellegrini is keen on making some significant additions to his forward line this summer after injuries to key players have threatened to derail his sides title credentials this season.

City were said to be weighing up a move for the 30-year-old striker last summer after his 33 goals in 46 appearances caught the attention of some of Europe’s top clubs.

Cardozo has been in the Portuguese capital for seven seasons now and has been one of their most prolific players, but Benfica have managed to keep a hold of him until now.

And whilst his current availability is unclear, the Primeira Liga side have preferred to go with Spanish forward Rodrigo this season and that has led to many reports citing the former Newell’s Old Boys star with a summer exit.

And, Cardoza’s agent has paved the way for Man City to make a bid after speaking to Radio station Cardinal Paraguay about his clients situation.

“I think in June, it will be a good time for Cardoza to transfer. At the moment he is concentrating on the remainder of the season but when the time comes, we will discuss a summer move.”
