Premier League giants Manchester United are hoping to take advantage of the current transfer uncertainty surrounding the La Liga champions FC Barcelona by signing Dinamo Zagreb wonderkid Alen Halilovic, according to reports in the Daily Express.

The Catalans were hit with an 18-month transfer ban on Wednesday by world football’s governing body Fifa after the club were found guilty of breaching the rules when signing 10 under-18 players and committing “several other concurrent infringements”.

As a result, Barca have been hit with a £305,000 fine, while they have also been prevented from signing any players until after the window closes next summer, with a A FIFA statement saying: “The investigations concerned several minor players who were registered and participated in competitions with the club over various periods between 2009 and 2013.”

And that means that the club may now not be allowed to complete their recent purchase of Zagreb’s brilliant young Croatia international, although they are still expected to appeal the ruling and if the case does go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the delay could allow Barca to sign new players this summer.
