Chelsea are to make a record breaking offer for Man City striker Sergio Aguero with the transfer ban handed to Barcelona leaving the door open to a bid from the Stamford Bridge side according to Football Direct News.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho is desperate to land a prolific forward this summer and has been linked with an interest in countless possible targets with a move for Argentine Aguero now said to be on the cards.

The 25 year old has been a big hit since his £38m move from Atletico Madrid to the Etihad Stadium back in July 2011, since when the lethal finisher has racked up 73 goals in 113 appearances in all competitions.

Aguero only recently signed a contract extension and clearly Man City have no financial need to cash in on their chief attacking weapon so even if, as this source suggests, Chelsea were to offer in excess of the British transfer record fee of £50m they paid for Fernando Torres it seems hugely unlikely that the Premier League side would consider selling to a direct rival.

Mourinho knows he must address his side’s lack of a top quality striker when the transfer window re-opens but the Chelsea manager would do well to look elsewhere.

Aguero is due to return to the first team having been out with injury since early March and Manuel Pellegrini will look to the in-form marksman to help his side in their Premier League run-in.
