Everton Plan Surprise Move for Liverpool Midfielder

Goodison Park side look to lure Anfield bit-part player into making Merseyside switch.

Check in to Sunderland vs Everton

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is apparently keen on luring Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen to Goodison Park according to the Daily Mail.

The Toffees manager knows Allen well from their shared time at Swansea City and with the Merseyside club set to see loaned in Man City man Gareth Barry leave in the summer the Spaniard wants to bring in Allen to fill the England man’s spot.

Six straight wins have given Everton a good shot at clinching a Champions League berth which would significantly improve the level of talent, and increased finances, available to Martinez but would Allen contemplate a move to Liverpool’s local rivals?

Allen has played a very limited role in Brendan Rodgers’ first team set-up this term, starting just 11 of Liverpool’s 33 Premier League fixtures and as such could be tempted by a move to any side that offered him a more regular football.

Liverpool paid £15m for 24 year old Allen in August 2012 though it would appear that Rodgers doesn’t see the Welshman as a pivotal performer so a big money bid could perhaps tempt the Northern Irishman to sell the central midfielder.
