Martinez, 40, is flavour of the month after leading the Toffees to six straight victories, culminating in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Wenger’s Arsenal.

The run has seen Everton move to within a point of the fourth placed Gunners and with a realistic chance of condemning Wenger to his first finish outside the top four since he was appointed Arsenal boss.

With the pressure mounting on the Frenchman, many believe the time is right for Wenger to leave Arsenal and Wright, who is one of the Londoners’ greatest ever players, believes Martinez is the right man to replace Wenger.

“That’s the kind of manager that you want, a good young manager that has proven himself tactically, he knows what he’s doing,” Wright is quoted as saying by Goal.com.

“It’s got to be that kind of man. Roberto Martinez, he’s the perfect one. If someone was to ask me who I want, I’d say Roberto Martinez.”
