The defending Premier League champions scouting team have been regulars at Sporting Lisbon games this season as they have been keeping a close watch on midfielder William Carvalho and forward Carlos Mane.

But now a third target has emerged in the shape of the 24-year-old centre-back Rojo, and now United are reported to be considering a summer swoop for the Argentine stopper.

Reports in Portugal have claimed that United were left amazed by his reading of the game and have sent a series of glowing reports back to manager David Moyes.

Rojo, a left-back turned centre-back, could now form the final part of a triple summer swoop made by David Moyes in a bid to inject some new life into the club.

United are currently sat sixth in the Barclay’s Premier League table and are in serious danger of missing out on a spot in Europe next season. However, Sporting lie in second place in the Portuguese top flight and are on course to securing a Champions League spot, meaning they may not be so keen to move as first thought.
