The 19-year-old defender made his breakthrough into the Everton side this season and has excelled under manager Roberto Martinez, and in the absence of England international Phil Jagielka he has established himself as a first team regular at Goodison Park with a series of impressive and composed performances.

The latest of which came in last weekend’s 3-0 victory over the Gunners, and his efforts didn’t go unnoticed by Arsene Wenger.

Stones was watched by Arsenal scouts whilst at Barnsley, before eventually joining Everton, and Wenger will already know all about his progress.

It is now believed that Wenger has instructed his scouting team to keep a close eye on the youngster for the rest of the season with the view of making a summer raid for him.

A strong, powerful and tough tackling defender, Stones is comfortable at both right back and centre half – both areas where Arsenal want to strengthen.
