The England international suffered a season-ending knee injury during the Saints’ 4-1 loss to Manchester City at Eastlands on Saturday lunch time after tearing his anterior cruciate ligaments, a setback that has also now ruled the player out of this summer’s Fifa World Cup too.

And with the 24-year-old also set to be on the sidelines now for at least the next six months, any hopes that Rodriguez may have had of leaving the south-coast club from one of the Premier League big boys when the summer transfer window reopened at the start of July – as has been mentioned of late in the British press – are also all over.

In fact, the likes of the north London club, as well as both Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, had all been heavily linked with making a move for Rodriguez at the end of this season, although it is understood that the Gunners are still prepared to monitor the forward’s recovery from injury before possibly making a move for the player further down the line.
