The Argentine tactician still has a year left to run on his contract with the south coast club but has found himself installed as one of the favourites to take over from Tim Sherwood at the end of the season.

And while Pochettino has confirmed that he wants to stay in the Premier League in the long term he stopped short at committing his future to the Saints.

“At the end of the season I will be speaking with the club [regarding a new contract],” he said.

“In football I am accustomed to living with these rumours, I have lived with them all my life.

“I am calm. I am focussed on my job which is to get as many points as we can from the last five games.

“I don’t talk about rumours. I have one more year left on my contract and am focussed on my job.

“Is my future in England? Yes, yes, yes. I would like to be in the Premier League, it is the best in the world and I would like to be here for many years to come.”
