The 25-year-old has just one year remaining on his current deal but has grown frustrated at the lack of first team opportunities presented to him under Manuel Pellegrini and is now willing to leave his boyhood club in a bid to gain more playing time.

City boss Pellegrini had apparently been keen to keep hold of him as he views the England man as ideaL backup thanks to his versatility, but Richards has made it known that he is not prepared to spend another year sitting on the bench.

A source close to Richards revealed the City star made the club aware of his plans to leave at the end of the season back in March.

The source said: “It is with a heavy heart that Micah has told City that he will not be signing his new deal and they have now accepted he will be leaving.

“Micah has grown up at City and given his all but this is the right time to move on.”

City will be keen to cash in on him now rather than lose him on a free next summer and Arsenal, AC, and Inter Milan are all thought to be keen on landing his signature.
