The Chelsea striker was named by Inter’s owner, Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir, as a transfer target earlier this month and Fassone has confirmed the Spaniard is one of the names being considered ahead of a busy summer at the San Siro.

“He is one of the names that interest us, as admitted by our president Erick Thohir in recent days,” Fassone is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“Then you will discover in due time who will be the player we will focus on.”

With Inter currently fifth in the Serie A and likely to miss out on a place in the Champions League next season, Fassone admitted the current focus was ensuring Europa League football for next term.

“Now our goal is to get a place in the Europa League.

“It would be a problem not to play in Europe for two consecutive seasons.”

Inter are likely to embark on a major rebuilding programme this summer and have already agreed to sign Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic on a free transfer.

Torres has endured another difficult season at Stamford Bridge and the 30-year-old’s return of just four league goals in 24 appearances has resulted in veiled criticism from Blues boss Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea are expected to sign at least one top striker in the transfer window – with Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa a reported target – and the West London outfit could allow all three of Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o to depart.
