The Merseysiders kicked off against City before Terry and Co took on struggling Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium later on Sunday afternoon, with the centre back admitting that the Blues players had been keeping a close eye on events at Anfield before they themselves took to the field in South Wales.

And speaking after his side had won 1-0 in the Principality to remain just two points adrift of Liverpool, Terry said:  “We obviously knew about the Liverpool result and it’s probably the one we wanted.

“We’ve won our game and the pressure is still on the teams above and below us. We knew we would make it very easy for them if didn’t win our games, regardless of the result at Anfield.

“Patience was the key, especially after they had their man sent off not long into the game. Sometimes we weren’t patient or at our best but we got the three points.”
