The Armenian midfielder was high up on the Anfield wish-list prior to his move to Borussia Dortmund last summer and could, according to this source, be ready to consider a move away from the Bundesliga side this summer.

The 25 year old has been very effective since his move to Germany, racking up ten goals and nine assists, though Jurgen Klopp’s side have now fallen way behind domestic rivals Bayern Munich and a move to table topping Premier League side Liverpool may now prove more tempting for the former Shakhtar Donetsk man.

Rodgers may see Mkhitaryan as a long term replacement for Steven Gerrard. Whilst the Liverpool skipper has been in fine form this term at the age of 33 it’s fair to say the England man is in the latter stages of his distinguished career.

Brendan Rodgers may well be looking to bring in top quality additions when the transfer window re-opens as his Liverpool side prepares for a long awaited return to the Champions League.
