Reds set to raid cross-city rivals for midfield maestro.
Liverpool are planning a shock summer raid on their local rivals Everton to make a massive £38m bid for highly-rated midfielder Ross Barkley, according to the Daily Star.

The 20-year-old has earned a number of plaudits this year thanks to a string of fine performances that have not only helped Everton to compete for a spot in next season’s Champions League, but push him to the brink of inclusion to the England squad for this summer’s World Cup.
And now reports close to the Anfield outfit believe that Brendan Rodgers is such a huge fan of the player that he will look to smash the club’s transfer record in order to bring him across Stanley Park.
But he will face a battle to sign him, with any possibility of Barkley being up for grabs sure to spark interest from a string of Premier League rivals including the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.
However, Everton have previously stated that they are not interested in selling and are instead hoping to tie him down to a new long term deal.
Sources believe that a large offer may be too tempting for Everton to turn down, though.
