The 19 year old defender has impressed since breaking into the Everton first team this term and is a player Moyes apparently sees as a potential replacement for outgoing Serbian Nemanja Vidic.

Goodison Park boss Roberto Martinez will no doubt fight tooth and nail to keep Stones, who Moyes signed from Barnsley back in January 2013.

Stones has made 24 appearances this term and has been particularly impressive in recent weeks, starting all the club’s recent fixtures in a seven match winning run that has taken the Merseyside club into fourth spot.

Moyes managed to lure Marouane Fellaini from Everton last summer but his former employers stood firm when bids for left-back Leighton Baines were registered and may well do likewise if Man United come calling for England Under 21 international Stones in the summer.

As well as looking for a replacement for Vidic the Man United manager will also have to consider replacements for both Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra, with both veteran’s set to see their contracts expire this summer.
