The Old Trafford club have reportedly told Barcelona they are willing to pay £12.5m for the Cameroonian, who is also wanted by Liverpool, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid.

Song has struggled to cement a regular first team place at the Nou Camp since joining Barca from Arsenal in summer 2012, and the 26-year-old has started just 12 of the club’s 43 La Liga and Champions League matches this term.

Barcelona are still waiting to see if an appeal against their FIFA transfer ban will be upheld but, for now, they still have Xavi, Sergi Roberto, Cesc Fabregas, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets and are willing to cash in on Song.

The midfielder joined Arsenal from French outfit Bastia as an 18-year-old and spent seven years at the Emirates Stadium, before following Fabregas to Barcelona.

United boss David Moyes is desperate to strengthen his midfield after missing out on Barca pair Thiago Alcantara and Fabregas last summer. The Scot is also thought to be keen on William Carvalho of Sporting Lisbon.
