Chelsea have reportedly agreed a pre-contract deal to sign 19 year old Croatian midfielder Mario Pasalic according to the player’s agent.

The Daily Mirror reports that the Croatian Under 21 international, who has netted 11 goals in 27 appearances for Hajduk Split, is to undergo a medical at the Stamford Bridge club in May but could be loaned back to his current club for 2014/15.

“Mario would like to stay at Hajduk as long as possible, but the contract is signed and we must respect the desire of the club,” said Loncar, speaking to Croatian newspaper 24sata.

“There is a chance [he will stay at Hajduk], but they are minimal. Mario will be in London at the end of May for a medical examination and then will know more about his future.

“[There are] several interested clubs from Italy, Germany and Spain, and it is possible that the first two weeks of preparation activity will be with Chelsea. But the decision is Jose Mourinho’s.”

One does wonder quite where Pasalic would fit in at the west London club, with Jose Mourinho’s squad being full of talented midfielders.

Chelsea have currently no less than 20 players out on loan with a number of those sure to figure in Mourinho’s first team plans next term, with the likes of Lucas Piazon, Thibaut Courtois and Christian Atsu greatly impressing. One player who may not be on his way back to the club is Romelu Lukaku, with the Belgian being strongly linked with a permanent summer exit.
