Chelsea are looking to take the talented Belgian shot stopper back to Stamford Bridge at the end of the campaign, thus ending his three-year stint as the club’s number one between the sticks.
There is still a slight chance that the Madrid side may be able to keep a hold of the 21-year-old, either on loan or on a permanent basis, but the club have sought to draw up a contingency plan just in case an agreement cannot be reached.
Reina is currently on loan at Napoli, who have first option on signing him permanently in an agreement which expires on May 1.
However, Reina is believed to be looking to make a return to his native Spain, and his agent has already met with Atletico chiefs to sound out the possibility to striking up an agreement.
Reina has two years left on his Liverpool contract, which is understood to include a release clause allowing him to leave for £4.1m this summer.
