Gunners hopes of luring starlet to Emirates Stadium look bleak.

It will take an ‘extraordinary’ offer to lure Arsenal target Julian Draxler from Schalke this summer, according to the German club’s chairman Clemens Tonnies.

Draxler, 20, reportedly came close to joining the Gunners in January, while Bayern Munich have also been strongly linked with the Germany international.

The playmaker has dropped several hints in the past that he would be open to joining the Gunners, publicly revealing he has spoken to compatriots Mesut Ozil, Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker about the North London club.

The youngster – who is rated at £30-35m – has also expressed his frustration at being played on the left wing this season, with wonderkid Max Meyler occupying his preferred number 10 spot for the Bundesliga outfit.

Despite all this, Tonnies is confident the player will remain at the Veltins Arena for many seasons to come, unless something ‘extraordinary’ happens.

“Julian (Draxler) will stay at our club, if there is not something extraordinary going to happen (this summer),” Tonnies is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“After that next season we will have to see. But I am very much convinced he will play even longer for Schalke than just next season.”
