The north London outfit have been in the market for a new manager this season as their experiment to place ex-midfielder Tim Sherwood in charge has not worked out as they had hoped.

Holland coach Louis van Gaal and the Ajax boss Frank de Boer have been strong linked with the role, but Allegri has emerged as the new front runner.

Reports in Italy have claimed that the 46-year-old has already held discussions with the club and has provisionally agreed to take over at the end of the season when Sherwood departs the post.

Allegri is apparently on holiday right now, but will be installed in the position after being promised that he would have a significant amount of funds to spend during the transfer window.

Allegri had been tipped as a potential superstar coach before taking over at Milan, but since being sacked by the club at the start of the year he has taken a hiatus until the right job came along.
