Mendy has been impressing with the south coast club this season after arriving from Le Havre in a £3.5m deal last summer that saw him put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal.

Marseille president Vincent Labrune is unwilling to sell the highly rated youngster, but an offer in excess of €7m will test his resolve as the French club are in dire need of funds to balance the books.

Mendy has been in fine form this season, notching up 22 appearances in Ligue 1, scoring one goal and creating three assists.

United have already been linked with a number of young full-backs ahead of the summer transfer window, with Sevilla’s young defender Alberto Moreno also though to be a major target. Manager David Moyes is eager not to suffer another disappointing summer like he did last year and United have been scouting extensively for the right players.

The English champions are actively looking for a replacement for the 32-year-old Evra, as the Frenchman’s contract with the club expires this summer.
